Support the CivicLex Weekly through NewsMatch
The Short Version:
We’re trying to raise $30,000 over the next month to support the CivicLex Weekly and our civic education work. NewsMatch will double every donation we get.
We’re asking for your help to get there – make a contribution today.
Dear Cory,
I’m writing you today because we know you are one of the top readers of the CivicLex Weekly, and we need your support to ensure its future.
For the past 5 years, CivicLex has helped residents make sense of the civic issues that shape Lexington in service of strengthening the civic health of our community. This is essential work—especially these days—and it would not be possible without the support of readers like you.
That’s why we’re excited to share that we have an opportunity to make your donation go even further this year through NewsMatch, an industry-wide movement to sustain work like ours through matching gifts on the local and national level. Since 2016 NewsMatch has raised over $150 million to keep nonprofit news & journalism like ours running.
Here’s how it works:
This November, NewsMatch will match all new donations to CivicLex (up to $15,000) in one of two ways:
New monthly donations will be matched 12 times (!!)
One-time gifts will be matched up to $1,000 each
That means that, through NewsMatch, we can earn up to $30,000 for just $15,000 of local contributions.
We’re raising funds to specifically support our civic education work. Our civic education work helps residents understand the issues impacting Fayette County and equips them with the knowledge and tools they need to engage with those issues in a meaningful way.
We know that you know our civic education work through the CivicLex Weekly, which provides thousands of Lexington residents with information about what is happening each week in city hall. You may also know it through our coverage of Lexington’s local elections, Comprehensive Plan, redistricting process, Urban Services Boundary, ARPA funding decisions, budgeting, or countless other projects.
We provide all of these services completely for free, but it is not free to make. Each week, our staff spends hours pouring over city documents, sitting in on meetings, and crafting easy-to-understand guides to these civic issues. Your support ensures that our civic education work remains free for our community to access – and now, that support can be matched!
