It’s the second day of the workweek and the first day of November.

Between Election Day, a potential long weekend with Veterans Day, the Miami Book Fair, Give Miami Day, Thanksgiving, and the start of Miami Art Week, we’ve got one colorful calendar in store (and that’s without mentioning a certain someone’s birthday 😎).

Excited yet? We’ve got even more talk about what to do around town down below.

What Miami is talking about

🤔 Donating on Give Miami Day is easy. But deciding who to give to? With over 1,000 organizations participating, that can be a little more of a challenge. To make things easier, we teamed up with The Miami Foundation to draw up a short quiz that’ll point you to the giving category calling your name. As an added bonus, the quiz comes with the opportunity to score an extra $100 for your fave nonprofit. Get ready for Give Miami Day by taking the quiz now.

🍴The SOBEWFF ticket presale is now live! This week, Miami Beach residents and Capital One cardholders gain access to early and discounted tickets for a long weekend’s worth of indulging and imbibing. In addition to the return of familiar favorites — Burger Bash, Tacos & Tequila, and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives LIVE — new events for 2023 include After Dark parties with Smorgasburg and “Triple D” LIVE, a showcase of Overtown chefs hosted by Marcus Samuelsson and a Farmer’s Market Brunch hosted by Michael Schwartz. As for the rest of ya, the public ticket sale opens Nov. 7. The 22nd edition of the festival runs Feb. 23 through 26. (Miami Herald)

⛳ This isn’t your average minigolf experience. From the co-founders of Topgolf, Puttshack, now open at Brickell City Centre, offers a similar combo of tech-infused golf, drinking and dining, putting a decidedly more modern Millennial spin on the minigolf rounds of childhood. Completing the scene are skyline views and a DJ spinning in the later hours of the night to amp up the energy. (Time Out)

☀️ How’s this for a bright idea: Ytech has announced plans to develop what they call the world’s first partially solar-powered residential high-rise. The 70-story structure proposed for 1428 Brickell Avenue would feature a “solar backbone” on its west side composed of 500 photovoltaic-integrated windows, in total capable of generating 170 megawatts of solar energy per year. 🍨 Got a sweet tooth? Then do I have news for you. Miami’s foodie news has been decadent and dessert-driven as of late. The founder of Night Owl Cookies has opened a new cinnamon roll concept, Rolled, next to FIU — though only two of their 10 flavors of artisanal rolls actually contain cinnamon… No longer does a craving for Sweet Melody ice cream demand a drive out to west Kendall now that they’ve got a new location on 8th Street just west of Douglas Road… Portland-based creamery Salt & Straw is expanding their Miami footprint with a South Beach location coming to Lincoln Road next spring… Also headed to South Beach in 2023 is another Sugar Factory location, which will move into the former Firestone garage on Alton Road owned by Dave Grutman… And finally, tell your friend in Fort Lauderdale that Fireman Derek’s is headed to their neck of the woods with a downtown location that opens on Nov 5.

🌱 Discover Camp Mahachee

Hidden off of Old Cutler Road, next to Matheson Park, Camp Mahachee gives girls an oasis to learn about nature and how to preserve it.

Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida purchased the 11-acre property in 1945 with funds from Girl Scout Cookie sales. Over time, the hardwood hammock at the entrance has become overrun with invasive species.

With help from Coral Gables Community Foundation, Coral Gables Garden Club and others, GSTF is restoring the camp’s front area. During the summer, partners removed non-native plants. Girl Scouts and volunteers planted 1,100 trees in October. Next: more tree plantings and a pollinator garden.

Ready for movie night with a Miami twist?

Local filmmaker Billy Corben’s latest documentary, God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty, is out on Hulu today. The film centers on a former Fontainebleau pool attendant’s alleged seven-year relationship (Throuple? Love triangle? Entanglement?) with Becki Falwell and her husband, Evangelical Christian leader Jerry Falwell Jr.

Not sure there’s such a thing as writing a smooth transition out of such a synopsis so… see you back in your inbox tomorrow, Miami!
