Welcome to Charleston Scene!
Thanks for signing up for our free newsletter, which you can expect in your inbox every Thursday evening!
My name’s Kalyn Oyer, and I’m the lead writer for Charleston Scene, the arts and entertainment section of The Post and Courier. It features what we publish in our print Thursday Scene section, Sunday Life section and beyond. I also write about food & beverages for our Wednesday Food section, content that occasionally graces this newsletter.
Every week, I’ll be compiling the latest in local culture and entertainment news. That includes fun things to do around town, features on local and visiting creatives and issues facing the arts scene. This is the perfect place to get the scoop on everything from celebrity spottings to new Charleston venues and endeavors, from drive-in theaters to concert halls. I’ll also keep you in the know on relevant weekly happenings, whether you want to participate or just want to stay in the loop.
In addition to our news content, we also have a weekly trivia quiz for your enjoyment that will be included in this newsletter. You can find that and all our content online at charlestonscene.com.
Thanks for subscribing, and hope to see you out on the town!
A bit more about me, your newsletter author:
I’m a real unicorn of Charleston, a tried and true native. I grew up in Mount Pleasant, worked at a beach store called Splash! on Isle of Palms (now, Papi’s Taqueria) and went to college at The University of South Carolina. (Go Gamecocks!)
I grew up on my dad’s classic rock CD collection (Led Zep, baby!) and play the piano — two things that pushed me toward a career in music journalism.
I used to write for the Charleston City Paper, where I interviewed local and touring bands for years as an intern and then freelance writer. I also have photographed numerous music festivals and concerts from the photo pit.
I’ve been at The Post and Courier for five years now!
Have a tip or anything else you think I should know about? Feel free to send me an email any time at koyer@postandcourier.com!
